MCMINNVILLE, Ore. (KATU) — The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) has reassigned K9 RoJo to the Correctional Facility following the departure of his handler, Deputy Skaer.
Sheriff Elliott decided to move RoJo to assist with adult in custody intake searches and facility searches for contraband, including methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl.
Sheriff Elliott said the move allows YCSO to retain and utilize a valuable resource within the agency, providing additional tools for managing the correctional facility.
Deputy Jake Holverson has been selected as RoJo’s new handler. The pair began training together under Deputy Skaer’s guidance and continue their training and relationship-building under the supervision of K9 Supervisor Sgt. Herr.
Sheriff Elliott emphasized the importance of maintaining the safety and security of adults in custody, stating that RoJo will provide additional protection and deterrence against contraband in the facility.
