MILWAUKIE, Ore. (KATU) — A little cat named Sekhmet is living up to her name. She survived the avian flu and is now back home with her human, Kiki Knopp.
“She’s a fighter. I named her Sekhmet originally because Sekhmet is the goddess of war and healing, and she has been that,” said Knopp.
Knopp lost two kitties last week. She says, so far, only one had a confirmed case of the avian flu.
“I’ve been struggling to sleep because our two girls we lost were bed-cuddlers,” said Knopp.
On Tuesday, Knopp found out that not two, not three, but seven of her cats caught the avian flu.
That food is the free-range chicken formula by Wild Coast pet foods.
The company is asking cat owners to heed caution when it comes to two batches of their food.
A veterinarian at Dove Lewis tells us every cat is different, and the severity of the disease will depend on the cat. But nonetheless, here are some tips on how you can keep your kitties safe.
